About the Artist

"I Would Rather Die of Passion Than of Boredom"
Vincent Van Gogh
In order to ward off insanity after retirement in 2019 I had to search for a new and challenging endeavor! Following a very hectic 40-year medical career and several years working at an orphanage and school in Africa, I suddenly found myself with no reason to get up in the morning. There had been no time for hobbies or other interests in all those years, but I knew I needed something that would stretch the limits of my known abilities. “Art” seemed like just the ticket!
After watching YouTube videos and initially experimenting with watercolor and acrylics, oil painting became the lifeline I needed providing renewed daily purpose and deep satisfaction. I’ve been working with an excellent art teacher online since 2020 whose classes also provide a valuable connection for all her students to communicate and encourage each other.
I find myself drawn to calm, serene scenes and healing places. I love painting breathtaking landscapes with interesting light and shadows, meandering streams, winding roads but also enjoy painting still-life’s. My goal is that the viewer also feels the peace and calm I am striving to achieve through each painting.
